The Art League, Inc., founded in 1954, is a multifaceted,
non-profit visual arts organization based in the Washington,
DC metropolitan area. The Torpedo Factory Art Center is
located in historic Old Town Alexandria, 105 North Union
Street. The school office is open 10:00am-4:00pm, Monday

BRONZE
CASTING
Roland Richardson, Jr.
Students
are introduced and participate in the complete foundry
casting process from mold making, wax working, investing
the wax model (ceramic shelling),de-waxing and burnout,
to casting the bronze, breaking out and finishing the
piece. The wax sculpture must fit inside a coffee can.
Class designed for any one wanting to learn about the
lost wax' casting process. Slides, films, demonstrations
and guest lectures are incorporated into the syllabus
to give the students experience in bronze casting. Safey

RUBBER
MOLD-MAKING WORKSHOP
Roland Richardson, Jr.
A
one-day demonstration workshop; the student will learn
how to make a flexible rubber detail mold by either brush-on
or poured methods, a mother mold of plaster or plastic
is discussed to give rigidity to the rubber mold. Information
will be given on methods of venting the mold, adding fillers
to the rubber and/mother mold, and when to use a one piece,
two-piece and multiple-piece molds. Treatment of the molds
for various casting mediums will be discussed; wax casting,
plaster casting, and resin(bronzing) casts will be presented.
Instruction booklets on class discussion will be given
to each student.

Studio
For students and artists working on casting
projects.
Open
studio is for former students and those individuals familiar
with bronze casting procedures. The studio is available
every Wednesday. Please send an email to discuss your
needs and to schedule a time.
